Saily has teamed up with the Rottnest Foundation (and adopted a quokka!)
We’re thrilled to announce that Saily has officially partnered with the Rottnest Foundation, an independent charity dedicated to protecting Wadjemup, one of Western Australia’s most iconic and culturally significant islands. The most exciting part? Our partnership comes with an adorable new “teammate”! Read on to learn more about the partnership, the foundation, and why adopting a quokka is a great way to support the cause.

What is the Rottnest Foundation?
The Rottnest Foundation is a charity on a mission to “conserve the essence of Wadjemup” (the original Indigenous name for Rottnest Island). Since 1985, it has worked to protect the island’s rare nature and unique culture for everyone lucky enough to call it home or visit. Their work includes:
Habitat restoration. Planting native trees and removing weeds to keep the island’s ecosystem balanced and healthy.
Wildlife protection. Funding the vital work needed to check in on native species — like our quokka friends — to make sure they can thrive.
Cultural preservation. Preserving the historical and spiritual significance of Wadjemup for everyone to learn about.
Sustainable infrastructure. Creating smart ways for people to explore the island’s beauty without disturbing the environment.
How is Saily supporting the foundation?
Saily will support the Rottnest Foundation in several ways, starting with a monetary contribution towards vital projects, such as:
Woodland restoration. Replanting native trees and expanding the island’s greenery to keep the ecosystem healthy.
Critical quokka research. Funding the expert monitoring and studies needed to make sure the quokka population continues to thrive.
Wadjemup Bidi walk trail expansion. Growing the network of sustainable trails so travelers can explore the island’s culture and landscapes without leaving a footprint.
On top of the monetary contribution, we’ll be collaborating with the Rottnest Foundation to shine a light on what they do — and finding ways to get the Saily community involved.
Why did we choose this partnership?
While our main mission is keeping you connected as you explore the world, we also believe in leaving every destination a little better than we found it. Teaming up with the Rottnest Foundation gives us a chance to play a small part in protecting the unique environment travelers love to visit.
Plus, let’s be honest — how could we say no to supporting the quokka? They’re a vulnerable species, and Rottnest Island is one of the last places on Earth where they live safely in the wild. By supporting the island, we’re helping make sure they have a home for good.
The quokka: Why they’re the perfect fit for Saily
While quokkas are mostly famous for their smiles (earning them the “the happiest animal in the world” title), there’s more to them than just a wide grin. Here’s why we think they’re the perfect mascot for the Saily community:
They’re adventurous. Quokkas are daring explorers who aren’t afraid of a challenge. Did you know they can climb trees up to two meters high? If that’s not the definition of a daring adventurer, we don’t know what is!
They’re incredibly resourceful. A quokka will easily find itself a snack or a shady spot on a hot afternoon, without relying on anyone else. They’re a lot like Saily users, who land in a new country and hit the ground running — no Wi-Fi hunting or begging someone for directions.
They are born to wander. These guys never sit still — they’re active, mobile, and always discovering new corners of the island. We built Saily with that exact lifestyle in mind, giving you the freedom to roam (rather than worry about roaming fees!).
Who should we partner with next?
