What is Three Go Roam, and how does it work?
Go Roam is Three’s international roaming service. It lets eligible customers use UK minutes, texts, and data allowances in selected destinations abroad. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, data roaming means using a partner local network when your usual UK network isn’t available.
Three divides Go Roam into three tiers:
Go Roam in Europe — 49 destinations.
Go Roam Around the World — 22 destinations.
Go Roam Around the World Extra — 92 additional destinations.
The confusing part is eligibility. Three stopped automatically including free roaming on many new and upgraded plans from October 1, 2021. The rules changed again on June 22, 2025, when new Value plans began including Go Roam in Europe, and new Complete plans included all three Go Roam bands.
Because of the changes, roaming rules depend on the contract start date. If your plan started before October 1, 2021, you still enjoy free roaming in Go Roam destinations. Three roaming — Charges and plans
Pay Monthly customers access Three mobile roaming through inclusive Value or Complete plans, add-on Go Roam passes, or standard daily rates. Choosing the right plan involves checking which countries are covered and deciding if you prefer roaming charges to be pre-paid as part of your monthly subscription.

Three roaming — countries by zone
Three roaming countries are split into three groups:
Go Roam in Europe covers 49 destinations, including France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland.
Go Roam Around the World covers 22 destinations, including Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, Indonesia, New Zealand, Singapore, the USA, and Vietnam.
Go Roam Around the World Extra adds another 92 destinations, including Canada, Egypt, India, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey, and the UAE.
It’s worth noting that Three roaming in Turkey falls under the Extra band rather than the European tier.
Using Three roaming in destinations outside these three groups is charged at standard international roaming rates, which vary by country. Ireland is a useful exception — Three doesn’t apply its standard daily roaming charge in the Republic of Ireland or the Isle of Man.
How to activate Go Roam on Three
Go Roam normally activates automatically when your phone connects in an eligible destination, so you don’t need to inform Three you’re going abroad. Before you travel, check your plan and phone settings. Follow these steps:
Check your plan. You can log in to My3 or the Three app to see whether roaming is included or whether you have Daily Go Roam passes available.
Buy a pass if needed. You can buy Go Roam passes through the Three app before you travel or while abroad. Three offers 3-, 7-, and 14-day options, plus a 5-day Around the World Extra pass.
Check that roaming is enabled for your account. You’ll find this information in your Three account. Make sure that a spend cap is high enough to cover expected charges.
Turn on data roaming. Double-check that you enabled the data roaming feature on your device. On an iPhone, go to “Settings” > “Mobile service” > “[your Three line]” > “Mobile data options” > “Data roaming.” On many Samsung phones, go to “Settings” > “Connections” > “Mobile networks” > “Data roaming.”
Check the text Three typically sends when you arrive. It confirms the roaming rules and charges for that destination.
A Go Roam Pass doesn’t normally need manual activation. It begins when you first use an included allowance abroad, such as mobile data, an included call, or an included text.
If you’re unsure whether data roaming should be on or off, leave it off when you don’t want your Three SIM using mobile data abroad.
Restrictions and fair use limits
Three Go Roam is designed for travel rather than permanent overseas use, and fair-use limits apply.
For Pay Monthly customers, the main Three data roaming limit is 12 GB per billing month across Go Roam destinations. If your UK allowance is lower than 12 GB, you can only use the amount available on your plan. The Republic of Ireland is excluded from the standard 12 GB cap.
Outside Europe, Pay Monthly customers with unlimited allowances can use up to 3,000 minutes per month to call standard UK numbers and send up to 5,000 texts back to the UK. Three also restricts Personal Hotspot use in Go Roam Around the World and Around the World Extra destinations unless you use an eligible Data Travel Pass.
If you exceed Three’s data, call, or text fair-use limits in any two months within a rolling 12-month period, Three may suspend roaming on your account.
Three Pay As You Go roaming works differently. PAYG customers can use the eligible roaming allowance attached to an active Data Pack or Add-on, so the amount available varies by pack. In Go Roam Around the World destinations, PAYG customers can use up to 3,000 minutes and 3,000 texts per month, depending on their allowance.
