Frequently asked questions about Netherlands eSIMs
Get an eSIM. Buying a data plan through an eSIM service like Saily is a cheap and convenient way to get mobile data in the Netherlands. You can buy a plan through the Saily eSIM app and immediately receive instructions on how to install your eSIM (virtual SIM card), which we recommend doing before you leave for your trip. As long as youâve turned your eSIM on via your deviceâs settings and enabled data roaming, youâll be connected to the internet the moment you arrive in the country! Donât worry if you already have an eSIM installed on your device â youâll be able to switch between multiple eSIM profiles in your settings.
Buy a local SIM card. An alternative to a Netherlands eSIM is to buy a physical SIM card from the airport, or at a mobile networkâs shop or kiosk. A few popular operators in the Netherlands are KPN, Vodafone, and T-Mobile.
Rent a pocket Wi-Fi device. You can rent a pocket Wi-Fi device through a provider online and have it shipped to your accommodation. Depending on which company youâre renting the device from, youâll either need to purchase a data plan on a SIM card and insert it into the pocket Wi-Fi device, or itâll come preloaded. This option is a bit less convenient relative to others, since youâll have to carry the device with you, make sure it has sufficient battery, and youâll have to either ship it back to the rental company or drop it off at a designated site.
Enable your international roaming. Another option is to switch on your international roaming. The price will vary depending on your network carrier â it could be a flat fee that you pay per day of internet usage, or a price per MB/GB. However, we strongly advise against this option â international roaming fees can be extraordinarily expensive, especially if you tend to stream music or videos, or want to roam for multiple days.
