What affects Airalo eSIM pricing? 

Three things influence how much an Airalo eSIM costs: data, duration, and destination (the country or region covered). Of the three, that last one — geographical location — is perhaps the most important, but let’s discuss all of these factors.

• Data. You’ll pay more for a larger data allowance — but not much more. Just look at the difference between 1 GB and unlimited data for a period of three days. Your 1 GB eSIM will probably set you back US$4, while an unlimited plan for the same region may be just US$11.50 — only three times the cost of that very limited 1 GB plan.

• Duration. The duration of your plan has an impact on its cost, but if anything, that impact is even less noticeable than that of the data allowance described above. A standard 5 GB Airalo plan for a European country like Italy or Bulgaria costs US$6 if you want it for seven days. What if you more than double that duration and get a 15-day plan? You’ll pay US$6.50 — a tiny increase. For 30 days with 5 GB, the cost is US$7, just US$1 more than the seven-day plan. 

• Destination. This is the big one. eSIM apps like Airalo don’t give you data directly, but connect you with local mobile providers in each location you visit. Every country has its own cell infrastructure, local regulations, and unique economic pressures, so that prices can vary dramatically between destinations. Seven days with a 3 GB eSIM in Spain might cost you US$7, while an identical plan is US$9 in Canada. Same data, same duration — different destination.

Hidden costs in Airalo eSIM plans 

Airalo eSIMs don’t come with any hidden costs — if your plan is priced at (for example) US$7, you’re going to pay US$7 for that data. 

Unlike physical SIM cards, which often entail extra activation costs and sometimes renew without warning, Airalo eSIMs are pretty transparent with prices. You can set up automatic plan renewals if you want, but that’s a feature you have to opt into.
