Many phones produced since 2020 have an embedded SIM (eSIM), which is like a blank SIM card that lives inside your device permanently.

Assuming you have an eSIM-compatible device, you can download a SIM profile directly to your eSIM instead of swapping out a physical SIM card. That capability is useful when you travel abroad — you can use a service like Breeze to install a short-term eSIM profile for the region you’re visiting, getting you online while you’re there. Breeze eSIM pricing and plans

The range of durations and data deals available through Breeze is similar to those offered by other eSIM companies like Saily, Ubigi, and Airalo. Cost is the big bonus with Breeze, though — its plans (especially unlimited data packages) are very competitively priced.

Most Breeze eSIM plans range between 7 and 30 days in duration. Breeze’s smallest (and cheapest) fixed-term data packages usually come in at around US$3.50 for 1 GB across 7 days. The minimum price varies by region, of course, but you can expect to pay less than US$4 for most starting packages.

The longest fixed-term contract is 30 days, but Breeze often gives you three 30-day deals to choose from — 20 GB, 50 GB, or 100 GB. You’ll usually pay a little over US$50 for 30 days with a 100 GB plan.

Breeze also offers unlimited data plans for one to 30 days. Again, eSIM plans for different destinations vary, but a 1-day unlimited eSIM plan generally costs around US$4, while 30-day deals are closer to US$50 (or sometimes a little less). As you’ll see later in this article, those unlimited plan prices are much lower than many of Breeze’s competitors offer.

Breeze eSIM vs. Airalo vs. Saily

Breeze has a roughly similar price point to two other big eSIM companies — Airalo and Saily. How does it compare to these peers on coverage, price, and plans?

For affordability, Breeze undercuts Airalo slightly, though it can’t quite match Saily’s most affordable eSIM plans. However, most of Saily’s plans start around US$3.99, so (for certain destinations) Breeze might still be cheaper.

Where Breeze really outshines its competitors is with unlimited data deals. Many of Breeze’s 30-day unlimited eSIM plans are cheaper than the equivalents from Saily and Airalo by US$20 (or more, in some cases). The biggest name in unlimited eSIM data is Holafly — which also offers plans for about US$20 more than Breeze.

It’s not all good news for Breeze, though — the big drawback for you may be the lack of an app and the slightly unusual installation process.

How to install a Breeze eSIM on your phone

Installing a Breeze eSIM can be a daunting process, especially if you’re used to the simple app experience offered by most eSIM providers. In this section, you’ll learn how to get an eSIM installed on iPhones (iOS) and Android devices. 

Set up on iPhones

If you want to know how to install an eSIM on an iPhone and have decided to go with Breeze, follow this guide:

1. Open your device settings and tap either “Mobile data” or “Cellular data.”

2. Tap “Add eSIM.”

3. Tap “Enter details manually.”

4. Enter the SMDP+ address and the activation code provided by Breeze. 

5. Tap “Continue” and wait — activation can take up to 10 minutes. 

6. Tap “Done” to complete installation.

7. When prompted, set your device’s default line to “Primary.”

8. Go back to “Settings” > “Mobile/Cellular Data.”

• Install before you travel. A Breeze eSIM can be installed up to six months before your trip, so try to complete activation while you’re still at home. When you land, it should connect to a local network.

• Enable data roaming upon arrival. When you turn off airplane mode, toggle roaming on. You won’t incur roaming charges on the eSIM — this just lets it connect.

• Activate with a reliable internet connection. Many reported issues relate to patchy connectivity during setup. Only activate when you have a fast, stable connection.

• Keep your original SIM active for calls and SMS. Your regular SIM can stay in the device, so your phone number remains reachable for calls and texts while your eSIM handles data.

Breeze eSIM performance and user reviews

According to online reviews (which we cannot verify, of course), Breeze eSIMs work well in populous cities (with 4G and 5G connections widely available). Poor performance is more commonly reported in rural areas, where mobile infrastructure is inadequately maintained or even unavailable. 

Is there something about Breeze that makes its eSIMs perform better in cities than in remote areas? No — that’s just how eSIMs work. One area where user feedback did seem more specific to Breeze related to its unlimited plans. Breeze is clear that speeds are throttled once a user burns through 1 GB of high-speed data each day, but that slowdown seemed to catch some people off guard. That’s not a criticism of Breeze (again — the company makes clear in its contractual information that it has fair usage limits) but you should be aware of these restrictions if you’re going for one of Breeze’s low-cost unlimited deals.

Customer support

Breeze offers a variety of options to contact its customer support team. You can chat with a browser bot, call the company (via the phone number +443303202064), send an email (to [email protected]), fill out a website contact form, or write Breeze’s London office a physical letter. 

Compared with other eSIM providers, Breeze offers an unusually wide range of contact options for customer support. But how effective are they?

The most reliable ways to get in touch are by email or through the contact form on Breeze’s website. The browser bot (at least from our own testing) performed very poorly. Unless you choose from the prewritten button choices the bot gives you, you won’t get far. In answer to even simple typed-out questions, the bot usually just repeats the phrase, “Please describe in a few words how I can help you today” until you give up.

We didn’t have time to write any letters, but we also tried calling the helpline. Sadly, every time we did so the line was engaged, so that was a dead end. In summary, customer support (or accessing it, at least) is one of Breeze’s weaker points.

Breeze eSIM alternatives

Breeze is a reliable pick if you’re a light data user and don’t mind a slightly more manual setup. Its plans are cheap, especially the unlimited ones, and it performs well in big cities. In a price comparison of the Breeze eSIM vs. its competitors, Breeze is often the cheaper option.

Airalo is the better choice if you want the biggest range of destinations and you prefer managing everything inside an app. Its eSIMs are easy to install, the interface is clear, and it consistently supports more countries than Breeze. It’s usually a little pricier, but the convenience and broader coverage appeal to people who jump between multiple regions.
