Saily’s ad blocker saves up to 28.6% of your data

Wait — Saily blocks ads?

Correct! Saily is best known as an eSIM app, helping users connect to local mobile providers in more than 200 destinations across the globe. That’s not all the app does, though — it also comes with an arsenal of threat-busting cybersecurity features, including an ad blocker.

When you’re using Saily to get online, the app’s in-built ad blocking feature stops internet browser adverts loading when you navigate to a new page. That makes your browsing experience a little nicer — no one likes to be distracted by flashing banners and pop-ups — but the benefits don’t stop there.

Ads are often among the most data-intensive parts of a page because of their moving images and video elements. With Saily’s ad blocker in your corner, it’s a different story. Those ads don’t load in the first place, so you don’t have to waste your finite mobile data on them.

Ads use more data than you think

You might be surprised by the quantity of data that ads eat up. Open a page on your phone right now — it could be a news site, maybe, or a social media platform. Ads probably amounted to a significant portion of the data you just used.

Obviously the exact numbers will vary from one site to the next, but online ads consistently use a lot of the data on an average page, without adding much value to you as the viewer.

But why is this such a problem for travelers? Well, when you’re on vacation, enjoying all the benefits of an eSIM app, the last thing you want to do is run out of data. Most eSIM plans aren’t unlimited, so the more you conserve your data, the better.

How much data does the ad blocker save?

According to West Coast Labs, Saily’s ad blocking feature can save you some serious data. West Coast Labs tested a range of popular websites both with and without ad block enabled — this is what they found.

The research focused on 22 sites commonly seen on indexes of the most visited domains globally. The list included news, social media, and video sites.

During tests, the device without the Saily ad blocker used 276.3 MB. With ad blocking on, that number dropped to 184.1 MB. The feature reduced data consumption by 28.6% on average. If you’re trying to make your data allowance last during your vacation, a drop of nearly 30% is a pretty big deal.

Researchers at West Coast Labs also compared Saily’s data usage to the industry average (calculated based on the performance of four other eSIM apps). With the ad blocker enabled, Saily used less data in every website visited.

But wait, there’s more! The Saily app doesn’t just help you save data. It also boosts your cybersecurity.

Saily’s web protection help to keep you safe

With Saily’s web protection system enabled, you’re less likely to fall victim to ad-related scams and malware. Online ads are often annoying, but some of them do a lot worse than clutter up your screen. Malicious adverts, sometimes referred to as malvertising, can actually be used to trick you into delivering viruses to your device.

We all know that some websites are sketchier than others when it comes to ads. What you might not realize is that malvertising has made it onto a lot of pretty mainstream domains over the years. These malicious ads aren’t always easy to spot, but some can infect your device without you even clicking on them.

That’s where ad blocking and the rest of Saily’s web protection features come in clutch. When you’re browsing with Saily, potentially risky ads are booted out before they can load onto the page. Saily protects you from online threats so you can focus on scrolling by the pool and getting your tan. Just don’t forget your sunscreen — that’s something Saily can’t help with.

Saily’s built different

Saily’s ad blocker and web protection are just some of the features that set this eSIM app apart from others in the market. From privacy-boosting security systems to virtual location switching, Saily users have plenty to be happy about beyond just those affordable prices.
