Maya vs. Saily: Which offers better data plans? 

Maya Mobile and Saily both offer local data plans in over 200 destinations (which includes sovereign countries and unincorporated territories), as well as regional and global plans.  However, you’ll find plenty of differences between each of the two eSIM services’ plan offerings — let’s start by examining their local plans. 

Saily vs. Maya: A comparison of local data plans

Plan size

With Saily, all local plans start at 1 GB. Saily offers plans starting at 1 GB for all of its available destinations, which is great for travelers who like to stay mostly off-grid while abroad and only need a small amount of data. 

With Maya Mobile, many local plans start at 3 GB. For popular destinations like the UK, the US, France, and Italy, the smallest prepaid plan you can get is 3 GB. If you’re not planning on browsing the internet much, you might end up paying for unnecessary data. 

Automatic plan activation

With Saily, plans automatically activate when you arrive at your destination. As long as you’ve turned on your eSIM in your settings and enabled roaming, your Saily plan will activate once you get to your destination. If you haven’t reached your destination within 30 days of purchase, your plan will automatically activate. 

With Maya Mobile, plans automatically activate at a chosen date. During checkout, you can select which day you’d like your data plan to automatically activate on. If your travel plans change, you’ll need to contact Maya’s customer support to change the activation date. 

Plan duration

Aside from unlimited plans, Saily’s plan durations are fixed. Depending on the plan, you’ll either be able to use your data over 7, 15, 30, 60, 90, 180, or 365 days. However, in most cases, you won’t get to choose the duration of your plan — it’ll be preset (e.g., 1 GB plans are valid for 7 days). 

For most of Maya’s prepaid local plans, you’ll have a few options for plan duration. Whether you buy a 3 GB or 40 GB data plan, you’ll be able to choose 5, 10, 15, 30, 60, 90, or 180 day plan duration. The greater the duration, the greater the price of the plan. 

Unlimited data plans

Saily offers flexible unlimited plans in select destinations. In select destinations, you can enjoy 5 GB of data with no speed restrictions + unlimited data at 1 Mbps per day, over 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 days. 

Maya Mobile also offers flexible unlimited plans in select destinations. In select destinations, you’ll have a choice between two unlimited plans. “Unlimited standard” plans offer 3 GB of data with no speed restrictions + unlimited data at 1 Mbps per day. “Unlimited MAX” plans give you 5 GB of data with no speed restrictions + unlimited data at 1 Mbps per day. You can use the plans over 5, 10, 15, 30, 60, 90, or 180 days.

Auto top-up and auto renewal

Saily offers an auto top-up option to avoid interruptions to your connection. Otherwise, Saily will notify you when you’ve used 80% of your data plan so you can manually add more data in the app.

Maya Mobile offers an auto top-up option to avoid interruptions to your connection. If you’re a frequent traveler, you can also select an “auto renewal” option, which replenishes any data plan of your choosing every 30 days, for a maximum of 180 days in total.

Although both Saily and Maya Mobile offer coverage in 200+ destinations, the available destinations slightly differ.

The two eSIM services also offer regional and global data packages, but Maya Mobile’s options are noticeably more limited than Saily’s. 

Saily nearly sweeps the board with its regional plan package offerings compared to Maya Mobile. Saily offers broader coverage in the Caribbean islands, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. Furthermore, Maya Mobile currently doesn’t offer regional plans for Africa, North America, or Oceania at all. From a coverage standpoint alone, it’s clear that Saily is the better choice for travelers wanting to explore multiple countries and territories in most regions, and especially for those heading to multiple African countries. 

However, Maya Mobile’s global eSIM plans and those for Latin America do cover more destinations. The company also offers data plans for the Balkans, covering nine countries. 

Which one is cheaper: Saily or Maya Mobile?

A precise side-by-side comparison of Saily vs. Maya’s data plan prices is tricky because each eSIM service structures its plan duration slightly differently, which affects prices. For example, Saily’s smallest plans (1 GB) all have a plan duration of 7 days, while Maya Mobile gives customers the option to choose between 5 and 10 days. When it comes to prepaid data plans, Saily often comes out as the cheaper option for light data users. All of Saily’s plans start at 1 GB, while Maya Mobile’s cheapest options sometimes only begin at 3 GB. That said, Maya does offer 1 GB plans for select destinations like Thailand and Japan, but Saily still manages to beat it on price. Unlimited data plans: Maya vs. Saily

Saily and Maya Mobile also offer unlimited data plans in select destinations. Maya’s unlimited plans are slightly more flexible — customers can choose between its “Unlimited standard” plans (3 GB of high-speed data + unlimited data with slowdowns per day) and “Unlimited MAX” plans (5 GB of high-speed data + unlimited data with slowdowns per day). Is Maya or Saily more trustworthy?

Determining the trustworthiness of a company is a rather subjective feat, but we can take a few factors into account — how old each company is, the data security and privacy measures they take, and how easily you can get in touch with customer support. 

Launched in 2024, Saily is the brainchild of Nord Security — the same company behind leading VPN service provider NordVPN. Sticking to its cybersecurity roots, Saily has carved a niche in the eSIM service market by integrating three security features in its app, adding a layer of digital privacy at no extra cost to the user. 

The US-based Maya Mobile is slightly older, founded in 2021. Since Maya does not offer a dedicated mobile app, its service does not include any security feature. However, the company emphasizes that its networks provide end-to-end encryption, making eSIMs a far safer alternative to connecting to public Wi-Fi (a sentiment we wholeheartedly agree with!). 

Saily offers 24/7 live chat support in its app as well as email support and articles in its Help Center. While Maya Mobile does offer 24/7 support, it’s not through a live chat. The company’s main support comes from a 24/7 chatbot on its website. If you want to speak to a live agent, you’ll have to request it in the chatbot and wait for someone to respond via email.

Which one offers better network speed? 

When it comes to network speed, you’re in good hands with either Saily or Maya Mobile. You can expect high speed connectivity from both eSIM services, offering up to 5G network speeds in destinations that have the infrastructure for it. However, network speeds are not decided by either Saily or Maya — they’re dependent on local network providers and will vary from country to country. 

Maya vs. Saily: Which one has better reviews?

Overall, both Saily and Maya Mobile have garnered positive reviews on TrustPilot. As of June 6, 2025, Saily holds a 4.2-star rating from 3,400+ reviews, with an emphasis on its strong customer support and user-friendly app interface. Maya’s rating is currently higher, at 4.6 stars from 9,000+ reviews, many of which praise its reliable connection. 

Since Maya Mobile doesn’t have an app, you won’t find user reviews on the App Store or Google Play. Saily, however, holds a combined 4.7-star rating across both platforms, based on over 72,400 reviews as of June 6, 2025.

Additional features and perks

Saily and Maya Mobile share a couple of perks.
