Saily as Solferino 2026’s international mobility partner
Solferino, an event held in the Italian town of the same name over several days in late June 2026 in Italy, celebrates Henry Dunant’s ideas, which resulted in the creation of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Dunant visited the town after the Battle of Solferino in 1859 and, after seeing the large numbers of injured soldiers, reflected on his experiences in the book A Memory of Solferino.
Advocating for no discrimination for those injured on the battlefield, Dunant joined the committee that worked to establish the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Since 1992, the Italian Red Cross has hosted volunteers from all over the world to commemorate Solferino’s importance to the history of the movement. The pinnacle of the event is the Fiaccolata — a procession from Solferino to Castiglione delle Stiviere. The procession recreates the path that the wounded soldiers were evacuated on, with thousands of volunteers carrying torchlights to remember the humanitarian spirit that inspired the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
Solferino 2026 was a special iteration of the event because the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched its “Light in the Darkness” campaign. The campaign invites people to take part by simply lighting a candle, sharing a meaningful reflection about their life’s experiences, and encouraging others to do the same. “Light in the Darkness” emphasizes listening to each other to bring people together in troubling times.

If you’re part of a nonprofit organization, using Saily is simple. After submitting an application on the Saily Nonprofits program page and our team approving your request, your organization will receive an individual proposal for a mobile data plan.
Subsequently, you will have to download the Saily eSIM app, pick the destination you’re traveling to, and use the discount code you were given for your data plan. Remember to follow the on-screen instructions to set up the eSIM so you can use it as soon as you arrive at your destination. The eSIM will activate automatically once you arrive, helping you connect with your volunteering colleagues or your family.
